Down Went Alice
R
ock legends Stephen Moriarty, Alfie Evans, and Stuart Townsend grew up together in England. As teenagers, they formed a band that enjoyed a large local following, but, desiring fame and fortune, the boys soon migrated to Los Angeles. There they toiled in musical oblivion for years until singer, Sara Adams, came along.
Sara and Alfie were inseparable from the moment they first met. The men invited Sara to join their band, and with that addition, they became Wonderland. The band’s sudden fame was more than any of them could have imagined. For nearly a decade, they recorded wildly-successful albums and toured behind each one.
But something went terribly wrong. At the highest peak of their success, Alfie walked away from Sara and Wonderland, vowing never to return. This came after a public argument between Stephen and Alfie, backstage after a show, during which Stephen revealed his affair with Sara and that she was pregnant with his child.
I am that child.
My name is Alice, and this is my story of Wonderland.
Praise for Down Went Alice
"Growing up in the shadow of any famous parent can be challenging, growing up in the shadow of two members of the most popular band on the planet…soul crushing. Down Went Alice is as realistic a look inside the secretive, paranoiac, drug-fueled world of a fictional, old school rock and roll family as any written in the non-fictional space. Skeet captures all the emotional details and truths, all the joyful highs and painful lows, in vivid detail. You’ll feel for Alice like you feel for a close sibling, hoping beyond hope that she’ll find some semblance of family love that we all crave as a young adult. Down Went Alice is a heartfelt exploration of love, hate, ambivalence and hope, you’ll laugh and cry, and absolutely find yourself cheering for Alice Moriarty!!”
- Alan Pietruszewski, Actor | Producer, Los Angeles, California
"From page one, Kristen Skeet successfully grabbed me and took me on a fast-paced trip through the twists and turns of Alice’s childhood. With catchy Alice in Wonderland references throughout, Alice’s diary brought me right into her world of fame and misfortune and kept me there until the very end. If you are looking to be left satisfied and craving more, I urge you to take a seat and buckle up for what is sure to be a bumpy and unforgettable ride!”
- Lynn M. Lombard, Writer, Akron, New York
"Kristen Skeet’s debut novel “had me” with the Introduction and I never stopped turning pages until her last word. Exceptional storytelling, compelling characters, believable situations, terrific pacing. It’s unconscionable of parents, rock star legends, to neglect their offspring, but that’s who Alice Moriarty is. Reading her diary is like getting in her head, experiencing in her battles, feeling her despair, her fears, her needs. Lines cleverly interspersed from Alice in Wonderland augment the story of the renowned Wonderland band. This is a great debut adult fiction by an author who’s name will surely be recognizable before long. I encourage you to buy her book and come along for the ride. As for me? I want more from this author and hope she considers telling me what happens next in the life of Alice Moriarty. ”
- Terri Skurzewski, Elma, New York, Co-Author of No Stoppin' This Boppin'
"Down Went Alice by Kristen Skeet is a moving and starkly poignant story that is masterfully told…bringing you inside Alice's head. You hear all the voices there, feel the emotions, sense the underlying fears and demons. When an author can do that…it is magic. Just remember that all isn’t what it seems. After all, it is WONDERLAND…”
- Linda Lou Weaver Oliphant, Reader, Santa Teresa, New Mexico
"Follow Alice down the rabbit hole! The roller coaster ride of drugs, sex, rock 'n roll and the people it destroys is a fascinating read. Alice's sardonic, sometimes hilarious insights...make for a book that you can't put down!”
- Sherry McCutcheon, Reader, Athens, Georgia
